Marijuana: Vote "NO" on legalization for recreational use and keep it out of the hands of addicts and people struggling to stay sober.
Everyone needs a place to call Home
Homelessness can be the choice between paying the rent or house payment or going out on a drug binge. The roof over the addicts head is never seen as shelter from the storm, but rather something where there is plenty of money to gamble life away with for the "benefit" of addiction.
No one in addiction faces greater odds than those who are homeless and addicted. The streets are cold and dangerous, the addiction demanding and the options for help and resolve out of reach for many. Getting money for drugs comes in the form of paying an even higher price in humiliation and complete loss of dignity. Morality is absent and life for the homeless can be God-less.
Feeding the addiction with a life of crime is only part of the picture. When the drugs start eating into the teeth and bones and nerves start to get exposed from crumbling and decaying teeth; that is when the pain becomes so severe it is hard to comprehend.
Lack of showers, clean clothes, good nutrition and medical care creates a savage state in a human who was once loved and cared for by a mother, father or loved one before the addiction took over. Can we turn our backs? Are we able to help? What will it cost?
In recovery we know that it takes as little as five years to completely destroy everything in one’s life with addiction. We also know that it can take about five years to regain a life of sanity. In that five years we must consider the following:
Emergency medical care, dental, physical
1st year in sober living
Plenty of good nutrition to restore metabolic health
Restoring faith with a spiritual program
Psychotherapy
Light exercise to avoid accidents
End of first year, financial aid to restore life
2nd year, new education, new home life
3rd year, new occupation
4th year, learning how to help others (if possible)
5th year, helping others
